Present projects that I have participated in

  • Volume Rendering
  • Using seed filling in view lattice to accelerate volumetric rendering.

Seed filling is an acceleration technique that speeds up volume rendering by avoiding the processing of empty voxels that do not contribute to the final image. Further information can be found from my published papers and articles and Rami Hietala's visualization pages.

  • Functional MRI

  • Creator of Internet Relay Chat, IRC, 1988-1992
  • Internet Relay Chat is text-based Internet-wide multi-user communication system, where discussions are organized into channels. The popularity of IRC is based on the fact that the IRC networks consist of servers linked to each other. The users then may connect to any server and join world-wide discussion channels send messages to users on any other server. For further, possibly more up-to-date, information, type IRC to your favourite web search engine. The Dvorak Award was granted to Jarkko Oikarinen in 1997 for developing IRC. IRC Homepage at FUNET contains more information about IRC.

  • Neuronavigator Research (an image-guided surgery system for neurosurgery) 1990-1996
  • This paper describes the Oulu Neuronavigation Project in some detail and gives more references.
